Queenborough Castle was located on the Isle of Sheppey near the site of an old village called Bynne and may have been built on the site of a much earlier Saxon fortification. The castle was named Queenborough by King Edward III for Philippa of Hainault, his queen. Building work on the castle began in 1361 and finished in 1377. The castle was totally destroyed by Parliamentary forces after the end of the Civil War in the seventeenth century and no remains can now be seen.
