Only open at certain times
Moat surrounding outer bailey linked to the sea to allow ships to dock at castle. Square inner bailey with six large round towers and two strong gatehouses. No central keep. The outer bailey is surrounded by a roughly hexagonal wall with twelve round towers and two gatehouses, Northern gate not completed. Outer southern gate allowed ships to dock. This picturesque castle under the care of English Heritage is worth the effort to reach, although is best seen on a sunny day. Plenty of nooks and crannies to explore and don't forget to walk around the outside of the moat.
