Frances was the daughter of Princess Mary Tudor and Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk. Mary Tudor was the younger sister of King Henry VIII and she was married to the much older King of France Louis XII. Their marriage was quickly ended when the French King died after which Mary married Charles Brandon. Mary and Charles had several children, including Frances. Frances married Henry Grey, the Duke of Suffolk and their eldest child was Lady Jane Grey, the Nine Day's Queen.

Lady Jane Grey was born in around 1537 possibly at her father's estate Bradgate in Leicestershire. She was the daughter of Henry Grey, the Duke of Suffolk and Frances Brandon, the daughter of Mary Tudor, Queen of France.
