The son of Henry I was drowned returning from Normandy to England when his ship 'The White Ship' sank. The crew and passengers were drunk and the helmsman steered the ship onto rocks even though the sea was calm.

Hugh de Payens, a knight from Burgundy, is regarded as the founding member of the Knights Templar. He and his fellow knights were granted dwellings in Jerusalem near the Dome of the Rock which was believed to be the site of the Temple of Solomon.

Built by Roger, Bishop of Salisbury.

Kenilworth Castle 1120
Henry I gave a portion of the Stoneleigh estate to Geoffrey de Clinton his chamberlain. de Clinton built a motte and bailey on the land and formed a lake to provide better defences.

Worcester Cathedral 1120
Work began on the chapter-house of Worcester Cathedral.

Norwich Cathedral 1121 - 1145
Work on the nave and central tower was begun in 1121 after the choir and transept. Work finished in 1145.

Rochester Castle 1126
The tower-keep at Rochester was built soon after 1126 by the Archbishop of Canterbury with the permission of Henry I.
