how the castle may have looked in around the year 1232 created by Hubert de Burgh.

2 of 3: The castle consisted of a roughly rectangular enclosure with five circluar
towers, one at each corner and one half way along the west wall. The Monnow River was diverted around the sides of the
castle to create a water filled moat and a small gate allowed access to the
river one the eastern side.

3 of 3:At the heart of the castle was the main round tower keep where the lord
and his family would have lived. Access to the tower was via the main entrance
on the first floor. The lower floor would have been used for storage. A spiral
staircase was built into a semi-circular projection on one side of the tower.
