gremont Castle was built by William de Meschines in around 1130. Built on the remains of previous fortifications, it stands on a mound to the north of the River Ehen in the Lake District. Although the ditches are well preserved only parts of the walls and the gatehouse can be seen. A large section of wall belonging to the Great Hall can also be viewed. The castle was abandoned and the stones robbed to provide materials for local houses.
his castle is hidden in trees near Hawarden in North Wales. You need to park on the road and cross a field to find it. Parts of the castle were constructed in stone during the 13th century by the Welsh prince Llywelyn ap Gruffudd. Alot of remnants of the buildings can still be seen including two towers and curtain walls.
